For me EASY VIRTUE is one of his lesser silent movies ,I love THE LODGER and think that it looks great and shows a lot of inspiration from German cinema . I even prefer THE PLEASURE GARDEN to EV it has great elements of humour and some of the camera work is excellant. I also think that the pastoral scenery in THE FARMERS WIFE is some of the best in Hitch's movies.

Currently, I have 5 films from the 'silent era' of Alfred Hitchcock's body of work: 'The Pleasure Garden', 'The Lodger', 'The Ring', 'Easy Virtue' & 'Champagne', and I have ordered 2 VCDs: 'Downhill' & 'Blackmail'. Eventually, maybe I can get 'The Farmer's Wife', 'The Manxman' & 'Juno & The Paycock'. My favourite from what I have so far is 'The Lodger', simply because I think everything that was ever going to be good about the Hitch during his illustrious career was right there, in that first film. I just admired his use of the still shots, the marquee signs, the whodunnit scenario, and the love zwist between Ivor Norvello, Joe, and the girl. Instead of complaining about not having communicative sound a la speech, I really came away wondering why Directors and Actors can't make even more appealing films these days with all of the so-called advancement in film that we have achieved over the years. Can YOU imagine Hitchcock's use of the digital technology, computers or CGI, blue screens, etc. along with his attention to detail in devoloping characters, plot and story lines? Jiminy Cricket! And someone like Uwe Boll has the gall to declare himself a Genius?!! He should try learning some *beep* English first! lol FuturePrimitive666.

My second silent from Hitch - The Lodger was the first. As with others in this thread I think The Lodger is superior for a number of reasons. Nonetheless this film has its touches - the characters of Mrs Whittaker senior, the way Larita is depicted with a cigarette and her revenge on Mrs Whittaker senior. I quite enjoyed it.

I can't speak for the others...but the one I got was put together with "Blackmail" and I enjoyed "Blackmail" much more than this.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.
