See 'Cat and the Canary' on the BIG SCREEN!

Silent film afficionados in the New York/New Jersey area take note!
The beautiful Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, NY will be showing classic
1927 version of THE CAT AND THE CANARY on Sunday, October 23, presented
in a brand-new, restored 35mm print with live musical accompaniment by
Jeff Barker on the Lafayette's fabulous Wurlitzer organ!

The Lafayette Theatre, built in 1924 and beautifully restored just
recently by the Galaxy Theatre Corporation, has been heralded by USA
TODAY as one of the "ten great theaters to revel in cinematic
pleasure". One of the last great theaters following the time-honored
tradition of showmanship, the Lafayette showcases weekly classic film
events as well as first-run films and is the New York metro area's only
full-time vintage movie palace. It features 1000 seats, modern
projection equipment, a silver screen and the Ben Hall memorial Mighty
Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ. The Lafayette is your first choice to
experience films in a classic theatre setting.

And that's just one show in their spectacular HORROR-THON weekend,
which also includes new 35mm prints of SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDES OF
DRACULA, THE SHINING, THE EXORCIST, and two extra special events: the
gala premiere of SPOOKTACULAR - featuring NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD with
rare horror trailers and HOUSE OF WAX, starring Vincent Price and shown
in dual-strip, poloroid 3-D!

I caught this film on TCM last weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable silent, with great visuals. Silent films had certainly reached an artistic highpoint by 1927. Sunrise, The Cat and the Canary, Seventh Heaven.

Another score for TCM....dodn't notice it was coming on and didn't get to tape it.... Will watch for it again though. Have just started watching silent films, and have run into Gertrude Astor twice now with a very favorable impression.
