Later remade by Benjamin Stoloff as Three Rogues (1931), and bearing more than a few similarities to Ford’s later Three Godfathers (1948) (which was itself a remake of Richard Boleslawski’s 1936 film of the same name), 3 Bad Men was a considerable disappointment, and was partly why Ford steered clear of the Western genre for 13 years. Comparatively costly for its day, the film met with a poor preview screening, which subsequently led Fox to make several edits to the picture. And that still didn’t help its critical or commercial evaluation. Looking at 3 Bad Men now, however, it’s hard to argue with McBride’s assessment: This may ultimately be Ford’s best surviving silent movie: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/blu/new-blu-ray-3-bad-men/
