Grimes has Molly & the baby trapped on the upper floor of the barn when he removes the ladder while the other kids are locked in on the ground floor. The film cuts to other locations and then when back to the barn, Molly & the baby are now on the ground floor with the kids planning to get across the swamp. How did Molly get down from above?

I just watched Sparrows on TCM, and I too was wondering how she and the baby got down from the loft (?) without the ladder. One of kids couldn't have gotten it because the dog was still outside. I rewound it and there was no reason given. She was downstairs getting the kids together to flee into the swamp.

Like you suggested, it sounds like a scene is missing.

She was tearing up bags, I thought she used them to slide down.

Yes. They show someone sliding down from the loft on a make-shift rope made from the bags.
