Oh my god! Thanks so much for the heads up. I just saw Lillian Gish in Sjostrom's The Wind on a newly restored print, and it blew me away. The DVD-R is set.

shareJust finished watching and I could weep at the huge chunks of original negative obviously gone. The difference in quality between original material and portions taken from pretty battered and blasted-out sources is heartrending.
It struck me this time watching that the biggest loss is in the subtlety of facial expressions. Gish and Hanson look like they're mugging when the lovely midtones are lost and all we can see are their huge eyes.
