I have not seen many silent movies, but Lilian Gish is luminescent and Lars is great as well.

What a tragic and sad tale but not a forgotten treasure for us classic movie fans . Actress Lilian Gish did shine in this role as well . Thanks kelly-527 for your subject post .
shareWhatever version of the story I've seen I've enjoyed. This movie has been remade many times over the years with slight variations; some are better than others but the story always holds up. I just saw this movie for the first time and, even though it's a silent movie, it's probably my favorite.

I totally agree mdonln no matter what movie version of this storyline it always seems to hold up very well .
Unless there was another film version before this memorable silent film it seems like this was the one that started it all .
