I've been waiting for years to see this film, and at last I was able to watch it on DVD.
But after that wait, I was surprised by how strange I found the film in terms of simple characterization and plot. [spoiler] We are made to sympathize with Dennan and feel that he is a little mistreated by the others. But then suddenly Dennan grossly, vastly overreacts to the situation, and then remains a snarling animal for most of the remaining film. I am not saying that all films should be black and white, without moral ambiguity, but it is such an odd film in that it seems so unclear where the viewer's sympathies are meant to lie.
