Ship sank for for this movie can be dived.

This is for movie fans who are also scuba divers. During the battle scene in "Old Ironsides" a 3 masted enemy ship is sunk in battle. This was no model with some firecrackers placed in it to simulate explosions, this was the real thing baby.

Many movies were made in the 1920's which used real sailing ships. These ships were no longer commercially viable because of steam ships. So Hollywood was able to purchase real sailing ships on the cheap. Some of these ships of the "Hollywood Navy" were sacrificed in the movies they were used in.

The wreck of the S.N Castle sank for Old Ironsides can still be dived today. Here's a link to a webpage which shows the sinking in the movie and what is left today.

(I used to be a member of this dive club before I left California.)
