After the talkies killed their careers, the Talmadges sold their shares of their companies to him. He and his new partner, Darryl F. Zanuck, then reorganized the company and renamed it 20th Century Pictures, Inc.
(He took the name for the new company from the New York Central Railway's luxury train -- the 20th Century Limited -- which he regularly rode between New York and Chicago. He adapted the train's logo as the production company's new logo, turning it into a 3-D hilltop monument viewed from an angle with searchlights sweeping the sky.
