I was surprised by the ending - not by what actually happened, because I thought it worked out the way it should have - but I'm used to classic films having upbeat endings for its leading characters (unless you're a murder or adulteress, that is!). Poor little Violet. Perhaps she had the chance to play the "vampire" at least one more time and find a mate for life.
