No wonder Jean gets upset

The Dutoises come into his home, move him into the back room without telling him first, hide his mother's portrait, give his things to Arlette, take his mother's brooch, cut his mom's clothes to make clothing for the kids, and tell him that he needs to start calle Jeanne "mother." Sheesh- talk about insensitive parents!
