Can somebody tell me what happened to the ape?

I watched it a long time ago and the ape was about to attack Hercules but then it decided not to or something... What happened to the ape in the end?

No, it totally attacks Hercules and kills him. It just happens offscreen. After that, it either escaped or was recaptured later and likely ended up in a zoo.
