How great is this film?

I only rediscovered THE LOST WORLD recently due to DVD and had a much better impression of it now as I had rememebered. This is surely one film to be praised as an influence on many others down the line.

Get the Image/David Shepard edition, which has the best quality, IMHO.

spoiler, the plot and the ending is like king kong, i don't know which came first but that is certainly the most famous ending. the first time the screen went black i expected another dialogue piece, one funny quote "brain of a child body of an athlete.". i didn't expect the wild wrestling scene. the early shot of the ape looking terrified was really uncomfortable. you got to give it to the guy creating the special effects here in the 1920's, an advice if you consider checking this out, this movie really does not need words does it, so don't bother reading the boxes, and turn down the constant screeching soundtrack to get as pleasurable experience of this as possible. the description on the back of the dvd i got of this is something i can't make sense of, it says all footage of this was lost... what the heck am i watching then? so far the only silent movies i remember seeing is a short goof by movie hostess elvira, the mel brooks' silent movie and buster keaton in and out of the twilight zone. "talking pictures...?" - the twilight zone radio dramas episode the trouble with templeton.

you left when summer came,
longer than school children you took a break,
as im haunted in classroom by times of old,
when you blended in heat and all kind of adventures went on,
in the fall you came around,
with far in between lessons like a degree dropped down.

It is one of the better silent movies ever made. You can see the influence it had on later works like King Kong or as later as Jurassic Park.
