Why? That's what I never got, out of all places, why a sewer?

Yeah, when I saw that scene I thought that was strange too but later I thought it. I think it was meant to show how humble they were when they started off. It didn't bother them to have their date at the sewer. They didn't have much money but they were fine with it. They seemed, at that point a world away from the people they would later become.

They didn't need money to enjoy or entertain themselves. They had enough and didn't need a lot of money. Getting a large sum of money was a bonus. Trina was right to save and not spend lavishly but when the time came and all frugality could have paid off, she wouldn't spend any of the money; even sparingly. In fact, even that large sum wasn't enough for her.
