Joe E Brown?

In one of the final scenes of Charlie Chaplins The Gold Rush, after Chaplins prospector hits it rich, he and Big Jim are being led onto a steamer and a purser lets them in a room and closes a door behind them. I could swear it is Joe E. Brown, but he is not listed on the cast. Does anyone know if that is him?

I just watched this scene, and I'm not sure who you're talking about. There's a valet who bears a slight facial resemblance to Joe E. Brown, only the man looks like he's in his 50s, and he's shorter than Chaplin. At the time The Gold Rush was made, Brown was in his early 30s, and in any case he was definitely taller than Chaplin. The ship's purser, a young man in uniform, is taller than Chaplin but looks nothing at all like Joe E. Brown. Neither man closes a door, but the valet pulls a curtain across a doorway to Charlie's bedroom.

So, whether you mean the purser or the valet, I don't think either one is Brown.

I think he means the valet. I also thought he looked like Brown.

It's hard to judge. You could say he was too young to look like that in 1925 but look at Walter Brennan, he looked like he was in his 60's even though he was in his 30's
