A.J. O'Connor, the officer who almost arrests Chaplin onboard the steamship thinking he's the stowaway, you see him in several shots and he looks like Brad Pitt.

I checked the imdb credits and it's not him.

Of course it's not him, 'The Gold Rush' is 90 years old ffs!

It was obviously a joke, and a funny one at that.
