Just saw this movie for the first time and LOVED IT!!!
Wow what a movie!
Did the name "Brown Eyes" come from Intolerance by Griffith?

Keaton seemed to get a kick out of ribbing DW Griffith - THREE AGES is, of course, his INTOLERANCE spoof - and not only Brown Eyes but also Friendless come from the same Griffith pic (Brown Eyes in the Huguenots section and The Friendless One in the modern story of INTOLERANCE).

Plus Buster's pitiful attempt at a smile - using his fingers to push his mouth into a 'V' shape ('Smile when you say that.') - is straight out of Griffith's BROKEN BLOSSOMS from 1919.
