It is a VERY silly and STUPID idea! This movie is PERFECT! Same with Safety Last! and they are remaking that! Harold Lloyd's most famous film is getting molested by the CRAPPY Hollywood of today!

I agree with you all here; why remake a perfect classic?
Besides, Harold Lloyd is irreplaceable....

Hollywood needs to get it's head out of it's posterior &
come up with something *original* for a change....

I think only one person posting was "...upset..." over
remaking "the Freshman."

What I object to is Hollywood's continual remaking of classic films
& TV shows. The Hollywood punks & suits need to bust a brain cell &
come up woth something *original* for a change.

The plot is only "fairly generic" in the "boy meets girl" equation,
which is a standard film/TV/play/novel staple & plot device.
Otherwise, it's a remarkable & hilarious film featuring Lloyd's
comedic genius, which is highly original, & worth celebrating.

Whether or not it looks like the original is not the point;
the point is do something original, & not remake something that
does not need remade...

Just check out trash like" The Bachelor" (1999) starring Chris O'Donnell,
which was a remake of a Buster Keaton classic "Seven Chances" (1925).
All that money & energy for naught; the remake died a quick death
critically & commercially. No Keaton, no chance.... Same with a
remake of "the Freshman"... No Lloyd, no chance...

You can remake classic films (or try to...) but you cannot
remake the talent that made those films classic...

I agree. How many times will Hollywood make the same movie over and over again? The answer is plenty. They'll never top the original, though.

Has anyone thought maybe they were remaking The Freshman of 1990? That had nothing to do with footbal with Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick? Just a thought.

For that matter, has it ever occurred to anyone that the hit Adam Sandler comedy, THE WATERBOY, is in effect a remake of THE FRESHMAN? (Nerdy hero, mocked and dismissed by everyone; starts out as a waterboy until out of sheer desperation the coach allows him to play; visualizes his opponents as something he can psyche himself into defeating, etc.)

It's 2017 now and still no word. I'd say the project is dead.
