The Score in the DVD

Is it just me or the score in the DVD has diminished the quality of this film? I loved the simplicity of it in the opening scene but when it continued with the same pace throughout the film, it sort of got a little annoying. There were definitely moments where they could have done more with it just to add to the overall experience of the audience and would, in my opinion, have enhanced the movie.

Still love Rudolph Valentino in it though! You can see how he has progressed from The Sheik in terms of acting style and it grows into The Son of the Sheik. Brilliant.

Late reply but,I wanted to comment on the new score for the DVD releases of "The Eagle" None of them have done this movie justice, the only version to see with an appropriate score is the one released by Thames television silents with a beautiful score by Carl Davis. He certainly is the master when it comes to compose scores for classic silent films. Let's not forget the video was produced by David Gill and Kevin Brownlow. Only drawback is, that it was released only on VHS and more likely to release this particular version on DVD will prove costly to cover the costs for the soundtrack, but that's the way things go for many silents unfortunately.

I think I have the one you are talking about and certainly, it made me realise that the score in a silent film can really do damage if not done the right way...

I have no idea which one I have... But I LIKED the score!
I picked up a 5 DVD set for 5 bucks @ my local Big Lots. The box set is entitled "Vamps and Vixens Classics." It's put out by the TV channel AMC/Genius and each DVD has 2 movies, as well as trivia & movie quizzes.
The score is a little heavy-handed sometimes, but I've heard much worse. At least it's an original musical work... Not pieces of classical works thrown about.
I guess it would help if you liked "New Age" artists like Jim Brickman or William Ackerman... The score on my DVD sounds very "Brickmany." At times the score tends to repeat itself over & over, but that didn't really bother me too much either.

This film was very good...

I liked it!
