Why do so many women dislike this film?

Check it out:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0015532/ratings-female

As many women have given this film a "1" as all of the other rating options combined. Why is that?

It also seems that the older women are, the more likely they are to hate it. 68% of those over 45 gave the film a "1":

The number of men who've given this a "1" is also abnormally high, for that matter. I can't understand why so many people hate this film.

That's a harsh judgment in my estimation. I'm 57, halfway to 58, with friends varying from their 20s to nearly 60. WE ALL LOVE THIS FILM! Not one person who has seen it hasn't fallen in love with it and been determined to see it again and again. Before we had computers (some still don't), we actually would call whoever wanted to see "Prince Achmed", alerting them to when it was shown on TCM. Finally, I had the sense to have a videotape ready. I still tune in when it's shown, even though I have a copy. It's absolutely intoxicating viewing; For the time that it is on, my eyes are on the TV screen, not my laptop's, and that's a rarity.

At Yahoo!Answers, I frequently list this on suggestion lists. Also, I used it to correct the misconception about Disney being first with a feature-length animated film. Someone argued about it but admitted to not having seen this amazingly beautiful, entertaining film.

When I attend reenactment events, I often see artists doing silhouettes and the style of cutouts used in this film. Generally, when I mention the movie, they either have seen it and are enthusiastic about it or ask me for more information.

Don't know why it might be that some older women would dislike this movie, but I feel sorry for them.

For me: As Roxie Hart says in CHICAGO (though not in the movie, due to casting), "The thing is y'see, I'm older than I ever intended to be" and I love THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED. Haven't seen the whole thing through, though, so I'm off now to find a DVD copy to buy.

I know this is a really old thread but I felt I should react.

On many boards of non-Hollywood or otherwise "obscure" films, it are the 45+ yr old women giving the lowest ratings. Looks like the uneducated trolls of this world like to hide behind a persona that is the opposite of their own. Ignore them.

IMDB has trolls? Say it ain't so!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but its fairly obvious that many women may hate this film because the women in the film are portrayed as objects rather than people.

Absolutely not.

Peri Banu is a woman and is portrayed as the leader of the whole mystical kingdom. The female witch is the only character that is eventually able to defeat the evil magician. She also literally saves everyone in the end (with the magic lamp.) There's also the fact that the whole movie was written & directed by Lotte Reiniger. Basically the creator or silhouette animation, who also happens to be a woman.

My wife, 42, loves this film as does my 5 year old daughter. It's a classic for sure, not sure why the statistics would say that women don't like it. Very magical.
