Buster Keaton/ 'Arrested Development'??

For all you Arrested Development fans, is it just me or is Sherlock Jr.'s sidekick, Gillette, in "Sherlock Jr." seem like the direct inspiration for Gene Parmesan?? I know the creators have mentioned Keaton's films before.

Hmm...I guess I need to watch this again, I don't remember any Gene Paremsean-like character.

Good call! That's interesting. The Gene Parmesan bit is hilarious and very Gillette-esque.

reply

Kinda funny you mentioned that because when I was watching the movie I kept thinking back to the character although I couldn't recall his name

I wouldn't be surprised - in fact, during class discussion of this film a while ago I brought up this connection.

Don't forget that AD also referenced what was arguably Keaton's most famous stunt - the house collapsing around a man wherein he is saved by the window cut into the frame (Steamboat Bill Jr.) - just like Buster in Season 2 as he's trying to avoid military duty.

That's exactly who I thought of when Gillette took off his moustache the first time to show Sherlock who he was. I was almost surprised when he didn't say "It's just me ... Gene Parmesan."

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Lol, I thought the same thing!

Mr Flibble's very cross.
