Cruel scene

What the heck happened to the detective that the thugs had hanging in there hideout? They said they would leave him there till he dies. He's never rescued, and we're left wondering......

It's in the "inner film", which is Buster's dream. Since he's utterly a figment of Buster's sleepy imagination, he ceases to exist when Buster wakes up.

Maybe it's just me, but I found that short sequence pretty disturbing for a silent film from the 20's...I consider it quiet an achievement, really!
Of course, I think the whole film is technically brilliant for its time, so is "The General".

reply

VERY brilliant indeed. You don't really get a good look at the detective in the cage but yeah it was kind of creepy.

reply

It was creepy and disturbing, but considering the hero won the day, no doubt he or someone would go back to the hideout and free the prisoner.
