An exceptional film

I feel this film is marvelous. Not only is it filled with witty humor, it has a captivating plot. How do you other Keaton fans feel about The Navigator???Does anyone have a fav. part???

Me too, I found this the funniest of all his features, my favorite part is probably the scene when Buster uses a swordfish to fight another swordfish. I was on the floor crying from this scene, I had to pause it. A fantastic achievement on a comic and visual level.

I personally liked the creepy scene, with the captain's portrait moving in front of the porthole, and all the cabin doors opening and closing simultaneously. Of course it's not reallly scary, but it gives a nice frisson, especially in the context of the whole of the (brilliant) funny movie.

i enjoyed it a lot. i loved the sequences of the cannibals trying to get on the ship. it just works beautifully as a pure action sequence with humor added on. buster keaton did better action sequences in the 20 then michael bay's been doing the last 10 years. half of the magic is the fact that they're really DOING IT. just great stunt work by buster (as always) and the extras playing the cannibals. they all are really doing that climbing. it's amazing to watch.

As a Keaton fan, I like your "handle," Damfino. My copy of The Navigator has The Boat as well and my husband practically fell off the sofa the first time he saw it. From time to time, when we're struggling with something, he'll look at me and shrug and mouth "damfino!"

The Navigator is probably my second-favorite Keaton film -- The General is just soo superb on so many levels. But The Navigator has plenty of brilliant things itself. If I had to pick a favorite moment, I'd be torn between:

Him telling his chaffeur "I think a long walk would do me good," -- and then walking across the street. That combination of verbal and visual humour is pure Keaton.

Him and McGuire trying to cook when they don't have a clue -- and then the brilliant Keaton mechanics they have later that enable them to cook.

Then there are the sopping wet cards, Donald Crisp's portrait swinging back and forth in front of the porthole, the whole "chase" scene where they're each trying to find the other, all the underwater work... You know, the whole film!

this movie is brilliant. it is so sweet, funny, and incredible! keaton's face is perfect...everything about his filmmaking skills is 'exceptional.'
my favorite part is probably the part is after the girl is taken captive by the cannibals, buster emerges from the water, causing the cannibals to pause and look up. when he walks onto the land, he shakes a few times and scares all the cannibals away. i can't get over this scene! the musical score backs it up perfectly, too!
anyone think, besides me, that the second Pirates of the Carribbean was inspired by this scene?

I thought of The second PotC when I saw this movie. Anyway, my favorite scene might be the end, when Rollo pulls the lever. Or when The woman tries to Buster up out of the water, then she goes down as he goes up...

No, I'm not really vegan. Stop asking.

never resume, you make a "re" out of "u" and "me."

My favourite part was Keaton's response when his girlfriend shouts, "Cannibals!" He doesn't panic, or flounder. He just gives a nod of resignation.
Absolutely perfect.
