Why did Dave fight Deroux?

Spoiler:

After sneaking up on his sniping nest Dave had Deroux at gunpoint but chose to charge him and fight him in hand to hand combat instead of just shooting him which would have been the easier and safer way to kill him.
It doesn't look like Dave was out of bullets so I really don't know why he would choose to not just shoot the guy.
