Throughout watching this film I kept thinking of the images from 'Metropolis,' of which 'L'Inhumaine' predates by a couple of years. The set designs in particular. Also the (more or less) mad scientist character.

I totally agree with you. In fact I couldn't not think about Metropolis while wtaching this breathtaking film. Firtz Land, should have watch it. L'Inhumaine is an absolute masterpiece!
