Pain = Laughter?

Just never did get it. 3 stooges, same thing. I simply do not, cannot, understand how anyone's pain can rouse laughter in another human being. I have been this way as long as I can remember. I would be the first one to jump to the defence of the special kids when other kids would mock them, beginning in grade 1.

Maybe I am the odd one. I think there is a general, evil sickness in the general population, to wit all of those degenerate, unevolved groups who, right now, have it in their minds to take over the world. They should all be forced to sit down to watch 'The Lord of the Flies'.

I don't find it the highest form of comedy. I much prefer wit over slapstick. To answer your question, it's basically people forgetting their own misery and troubles by laughing at somebody else's. Yeah, it sounds sadistic, but in the case of movie comedy, it's all in fun, so I'm not bothered by it. However, this should NEVER be replicated in real life. The characters you laugh at on screen are fictional. But real people with real problems, that's a whole different ball game.
