question

I really enjoy murnaus's work, it's even better when it includes such talented actors like Alfred Abel and Max Schreck. Just a simple question... Where on earth can I find this film???

Alex: You know what you can do with that watch? Stick it up your arse!

I downloaded a poor-quality version of this film via eMule, but I think it is being restored and will soon be available on a commercial DVD.

It's now available on DVD from "Masters of Cinema" in the UK.

Watched the Kino restored version on DVD today. In the US, it is available from Netflix. Enough of the film survived so that a coherent and amusing version is presented on the DVD.

For an American-dwelling cinephile looking for these kinds of films, I would recommend investing in a "region-free" DVD/Blu-ray player. It's worth it. The Masters of Cinema line by Eureka is possibly even superior to the Criterion Collection (or at least gives them a run for their money), and they have a great many films that I'd been looking for for ages but couldn't find on Criterion or Kino or elsewhere on Region A/1. I can't say enough good things about Masters of Cinema. And I love the way that, when it comes to film selection, the emphasis for Masters of Cinema is not on the quality of the film itself (as it is with Criterion), but rather on the quality of the filmmaker, which is much more in line with my way of watching films (I'm a compulsive completist when it comes to directors I like).

Anyways, Masters of Cinema has released a DVD (still not upgraded to Blu-ray at this point, but the quality of their DVDs is only a hair away from their Blu-rays) that features the Murnau films "Phantom" and "Finances of the Grand Duke". It's a good pickup if you can play the disc.

I'm way late to the party, but it's now available on Blu-Ray as part of Murnau's Early Films box set

It's also on YouTube. https://youtu.be/c0pw5hjXgFQ
