Seeking a copy

Hello

I would like to obtain a copy of both the 1924 & 1945 versions of this film, The Enchanted Cottage... If you have a copy or can help, please advise.

Thx,
L

I've seen the VHS and DVD version of the 45' version on Ebay.

I finally tracked it down here: http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=1&ti=1,1&Search%5FArg=enchanted%20cottage&Search%5FCode=TALL&CNT=25&PID=7565&SEQ=20060428201906&SID=1. Of course, you'd have to travel to DC to see it, but at least it still exists. What I want to do is obtain a copy, which may be possible if one jumps through all the copyright hoops...

Traveling to Washington isn't an option, either. According to the web site, the LC only collected the information about films before the 1940's, so they have a record of what was made, but not the films themselves. I'm a novice at silent film, so if anyone out there can guide me to primary sources, I'd be very grateful.

The website I visited listed this information in the library catalog. I'm assuming that these articles exist, since it appears to be possible to make arrangements to view them in the Motion Picture/TV Reading Rm. However, like you going there isn't an option for me at this time. Someday, perhaps...

YouTube has the 1924 silent-film version posted.

Probably years too late to help the original poster, but Grapevine Video carries this film in their collection. I have found them to be a decent and friendly source for DVDs of neglected silent films.

it can also be viewed on youtube https://youtu.be/gx5tgkKUsmU.

I just watched it and was blown away by how good it was. Of course the Youtube version doesn't have the music, but i just added a loop of Erik Satie and it worked just fine. I think Debussy would also work

Wonderful film. One of the things I like is that the characters actually looked materially different. It wasn't just like Dorothy McGuire in the 1945 version with no make-up to look homely. The actress in the 1924 version wore a dental appliance, giving her an overbite that probably would have really interfered with her speech. Richard Barthelmess gave an incredibly physical performance. He was totally transformed.

This was a great find. I love IMDb!
