First Sci-Fi picture?

Was this the very first sci-fi picture? Or was there an earlier one?

Well, there's Melies's 'A Trip to the Moon'.

Or his earlier film, The Astronomer's Dream (1898) which is first on the subject.

This thing was a Soviet idea of Flash Gordon, but without the Vansmerrens.

Life's like that, isn't it? Undercooked then over-baked and finally insipient.

20,000 Leagues Beneath the Sea had been done twice before this movie, and The First Men In the Moon once. Among others.

Yea of course there are tons of made before Aelita. But generally speaking Aelita is considered the first science fiction -- the one that started it all. But Metropolis is the mother of science fiction.
