Military History

I'm hoping that somebody out there will be able to help me.

I'm currently conducting some research into this film and have no knowledge of military history whatsoever. Could anybody identify the uniform that Ronald Colman wears. I know that he is an Italian officer and the boots and crop would suggest some kind of cavalry-type regiment but I cannot find anything similar in my searches.
