This movie needs to be on DVD!

This movie definitely needs to be released on DVD.
I can't believe that it has not been yet. What a disappointment. This is as great a silent Biblical epic as Ben-Hur or The King of Kings, yet no DVD!

reply

It will be released soon I am sure.I have a friend at Paramount and they said they are restoring it right now.

reply

March 23, along with the 1956 version in the same package.

reply

March 23? Cool. I can't wait. It seems strange that so many other Biblical epics are already out on DVD and this one is not yet. Well that's good news. Thanks.

reply

Ok, it's now officially out on DVD in the 2006 set with the 1956 version. It's all in black and white, but the Technicolor scenes are included as bonuses. There's also a commentary track.

reply

i rented the dvd with both versions on it. the commentary track is interesting as well. the Technicolor scenes are good knowing how hard it was to do them back in the 20's.

Now you listen here. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy. Now go away!

Odd: my copy of the DVD has the Red Sea sequence in black-and-white. My VHS tape from Paramount has it in two-strip Technicolor, but the color was badly faded so I suspected Paramount decided to go with the photographically superior black-and-white footage for the DVD version. Still, it's a great movie, to my mind considerably superior either to DeMille's 1956 remake or the awful TV-movie a few years ago.

reply

Wow, i'd forgotten about this. Haha

Anyway, perhaps my dvd copy of the original was merely the vhs version copied to dvd and wasn't official.

Speaking of remakes, there's a Ben Hur remake on the horizon. I really hope they go old school with that, as part of the charm of the old films is the reality of their stunts.

Wow, what a party! If it gets any livelier a funeral is gonna break out.
