It shows up on Turner Classic Movies several times a year, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a DVD. It would have been nice if when Warner issued the 1952 version they'd "doubled-up" the DVD and included this one as well, the way they did with DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE and GASLIGHT, as it would have introduced the film to people who might not even have known there was a Silent version.

I own the Warner Archive release (which is the version TCM airs), it's excellent, and I highly recommend it.

I've not seen this new disc but if you say it's (looks and sounds) excellent then I'm sure it is. Only it's a DVD-R for twenty-seven US dollars, where the French one is actually two - two films on separate, proper DVD-Video discs (the other one is the 1952 Stewart Granger version) for less than nineteen dollars, and with extras. OK, as a UK resident I'm Region 2, but more than half of my DVDs are American.

Nah... I'm a CRITERION fan! However I'm well prepared to concede that just because the French set is on "proper" (as I referred to them) DVD-Video discs it does not necessarily follow that the picture or the sound quality must be superior to that of the newer Warner DVD-R release. It could just as easily be worse. Depends on the source print of course, and the care taken in the preparation (restoration/remastering?).

Don't know if we get IMDb notifications of updates, so just letting you know I've added a concession to my previous post (as I thought it might have come across as 'sarky', which was not my intention). Cheers! I'm going to bed soon, it's after 1:00am here!
