anyone know where I can find this movie?

I made the stupid decision about a year ago to watch all 1001 of the movies on the "1001 you must see before you die" list. So far this film has been the hardest to find. Anyone know where you can get a copy, or did the editor just want to 'eff' with our heads by including it???

I read about this film on this book also and finally found it on eMule, but it has no sound at all....

I made the same decision when I bought the book. I am closing in on 700, so I am searching for sources (Netflix, etc are still serving me well) the last 300, but I am checking on potentially harder to find films. To the theconnman: Did you ever find it, it is unavailable on Netflix, Blockbuster and Amazon.

BTW, on the bizarre chance you read this as I am posting 1.5 years after your post, which others were difficult?

facets is a film school in chicago, a non-profit, hence
facets.org, they have a rental operation, although be forewarned, one of the least organized i've ever encountered. But they are all up ons usual, foreign and independent titles.
They have Gance's La Roue ( although at the moment I have it checked out, I'll return it this week),
they also have Gance's Napoleon, and several others I've found no where else from the 1001 list. some of these are VHS, and from prints in bad shape. We can only hope for restorations on dvd some day.

But for a more challenging list, try Jonathan Rosenbaum's Essential cinema.
I'm at 886 on the 1001 list, but only 450 on the JRos counterpart.

Flicker Alley is working on completely new digital editions of two Abel Gance films made before “Napoleon”: “J’Accuse” (1919) and “La Roue” (1922), again done with the enthusiastic support and partnership of Turner Classic Movies, with new restoration work being carried out by the Netherlands Filmmuseum, Lobster Films in Paris, Film Preservation Associates, and many others, and containing new orchestral scores composed, arranged, and recorded by Robert Israel.

"J'Accuse" and "La Roue" will be airing on TCM the night of April 27, 2008.

That is awesome news. I can't wait. Now if we can just get the most recent restoration of Napoleon with the Carl Davis score. Damn you Francis Ford Coppola. Damn you to hell.

I had no other choice than looking for it on internet - copy I have is 3 hours (missing 2 hours from the original cut!), and have no sound: random classical/ambiance music do the job.

dvd is coming out may 6th, 2008 or so from the label referenced earlier.

I made that same decision to watch all 1001 movies a couple months ago. Now you're scaring me. "Stupid decision" you say? As in, my dvr memory is already almost filled with movies on the list that I haven't seen yet and they're backed up like planes trying to land on a holiday weekend at LAX and I'm watching them as fast as I can but but they just keep coming and now there's this extremely hard to come by (maybe even the hardest to find!) 4 hour silent French flick that apparently has no sound track at all that's set to record tonight and I don't know if there's enough room in memory and I've got to go to work Monday and I'm only up to number 349 and how could they have left The Lady Vanishes and The Pope of Greenwich Village off the list and does this mean I can't watch any movies that came out after 2004 until I've seen all 1001 in the book? Yeah, now that you mention it, maybe I ought to give this thing further thought.
