What was Chaplin's crime?

I'm just curious if on the wanted poster for Chaplin, they listed what he did that made him a convict in The Pilgrim? Or whether he was just a general convict?

The wanted poster does not list his crime.

I'd venture the guess that there was a wanted poster for him because he escaped prison, and that he went to prison in the first place, most likely, for theft.
