Name of the Role
I saw this Film (Motion Picture) in a french Version of 2001 in german Television. There the Role of Buster Keaton was called "Frigo", isn't it also in English?

This is probably a bit of a late reply for you (!) but i think that is probably to do with the surviving source material being French. When the captain writes down his new recruit's name he puts "Frigo", which was Buster Keaton's nickname in France, presumably deriving from his deadpan expression. I imagine in the American original he would have written something like Buster...

The US version has Buster. That's interesting that he was called something else in a French version. That is one advantage of silent films - any writing or intertitles can be changed for a different language.
