This is a great story of misery, hope, revolt, revenge, love. I should read the book to get it's full intent. Yes there is some very serious overacting but this must have been quite an undertaking in the day. Lon Chaney certainly conveyed a wide range of emotion thru the makeup and the character's story is heartfelt for anyone with misfortunes who has been bullied or picked on relentlessly. Was definitely worthwhile watching.

I agree very good movie,, lon chaney was great as usual,, the story of love revenge revolt , this movie had it all, Hollywood should try making an original story similar to the early years of Hollywood horror, and put it all in black and white,,

Don't know if you've managed to read it by now or not, but totally. The novel is so good, and really let's you get to know the various characters even better. Frollo in particular is really stretched better than he was in any film version
