Worth buying?

Hello, I`m a young old-film-fanatic and a purist who would like to see a good version of "Gösta Berlings Saga". I have a shorter version of it on VHS, I recorded it when they showed the film on tv ( it was by the way at a swedish tv-station ) and that version is, as I said, shorter and it had swedish intertitles.
Now I`ve seen that there is a KINO DVD release of this film. That version is said to be much longer and that sounds good. One thing I wonder though: I`ve read that the DVD has english intertitles instead of swedish. Is Sweden one day going to release a swedish DVD version of that film and in that case when? In fact, many swedish classics have been released on american DVDs, such as "Herr Arnes pengar", "Erotikon" ( not to mention the scandinavian masterpiece "Häxan"! ). All of these ( except for "Häxan" ) have english intertitles and I find that a little odd, if you don´t mind. : )

The bottom line: Is it worth buying the KINO DVD version of this classic?

Thanks

Staffan,

I've never seen any of the other versions aside from the KINO DVD one, but I hear that those versions suck in comparison. The KINO version is in 2 parts, both an hour and a half long(as it was back when it premiered in 1920 something), plus, as you can see in the other thread, the new score is absolutely amazing. I saw the flick in my film class about a month ago and thought it was fantastic and will probably buy it on DVD sometime in the future, so yes, I would definitely recommend it for you.

As for your intertitle question, I honestly do not know. You would think that Sweden would release a restored DVD version with Swedish intertitles, but again, I just don't know. Maybe the DVD has a Swedish intertitle option? =S

Hope that helps!

Buy it. I have asked around in Sweden and it looks like there are no intentions in releasing in there. The English intertitles are very well written and the transfer is great.

Tack för informationen! : )

And now when we are talking about a Swedish classic, I would also like to ask another thing:

Does anybody know where I can find the film "Körkarlen" ( The phantom carriage) (1921)? As far as I know it doesn´t exist on DVD and I would really like to see it! : )
