Will be on TCM on May 21st


I just found out that on May 21st, The Young Rajah will be shown at 11pm EST on Turner Classic Movies.

The Marathon will be:

MAY 21 (Eastern Time):

MORAN OF THE LADY LETTY 9:45 pm
THE YOUNG RAJAH 11 pm

DELICIOUS LITTLE DEVIL 12 am

And what a pleasant surprise it was. I didn't think they would have as much footage as they do. Still, about an hour or so is missing. You only get a hint at the film's sumptuous design in sets and costumes. Other stills show more scenes set in India with Valentino made up elaborately. His performance here is excellent by measure of what exists. His role requires a great deal of complexity and depth. And Valentino handles it well. He's much better than in the earlier Beyond the Rocks, in which all he had to work with was his own star presence. He was a much better actor than history has credited him with. That he could act (in addition to timeless star power) is part of the reason for his continued popularity.

I watched all 7 Valentino films last night and enjoyed them all, particularly THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE and THE CONQUERING POWER.
