A Must See for Silent Film Buffs or Film Historian Types

Mary Pickford is one of the finest stars to ever grace celluloid. She was such a fine, charismatic, beautiful, talented, & a treat to watch even in her lesser quality films.

Tess is one of the great films from the 20's with a timely story of honoring thy neighbor yes it's a heavy handed christian sentiment but it applies to all facets of society. It's about standing up for your beliefs, for what's right & sticking to your morals even if it causes personal strife where it might be easier just to roll over and absorb whatever is to come.

Mary Pickford was one of the screen's first stars and just as popular as Chaplin, Keaton, or Lloyd. You can say the first female Hollywood star. Gish might have been the first great actress of Hollywood but Pickford was married to Douglas Fairbanks (a huge star in his own right) and they were the first Hollywood super couple. Mostly all of Pickford's films are worth a viewing and Tess is definitely a great one.

So is it this Tess or the 1914 one that most cite as her best work?

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.
