Not the Robin Hood you know

One review remarked that Robin Hood doesn't actually appear until the second half of the movie.
That's only one aspect of this movie that's different. Most of us know "The Adventures of Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn. That script brought together most of the things I "know" about Robin Hood, that it, the generally accepted tales.
Robin is a Saxon, the Normans are bad, he meets Little John on the footbridge, he carries Friar Tuck across the stream, etc.
None of that is in this film. This is altogether another version of the story of Robin Hood. Which isn't terrible, but I felt that I had wandered into another story. I wonder if there is any literary basis for this version.
It also suffers from 1922 movie acting technique, which is way over the top. But the money is all on the screen, with magnificent sets, and a "cast of thousands".
I paid less than $5.00 for my DVD, and I enjoyed myself. There really is more than one way to do Robin Hood, believe it or not.
