No fans of this superb movie?!

Can't believe this is the very first post!

I watched it last night for the very first time in my life and thought it was truly exciting from the very beginning to the end! The story was very good, but the real treat was the magnificent Leatrice Joy, whose brilliant performance made 90% of the movie, IMHO. Her performance was amazing and full of energy without getting over-the-top. Her acting was terrific, very natural and "modern".

Also remarkable the very peculiar score on the Kino DVD. Not your regular score to silents at all, which really adds and helps to build up the tension. Kudos to them for that. However, the print quality could have been much better. The second feature on it, The Cheat, made 7 years earlier, looks much clearer and way better.

I am watching it now. I felt for the maid, the socialite got drunk and missed the maid's court case. She was going to ask for clemency since the maid stole her bracelet to fund a trip to California, to save her sick son. I guess he had TB or asthma. The movie does highlight the recklessness of the wealthy in the 20's.
