Slut means 'the end'?

In this language? Saw this on tcm and it said this at the end, i would assume its pronounced "sloot" lol.

reply

haha yes it sure does! I never though about how that actually is quite funny for an english speaking crowd hehe

reply

It did catch me slightly offguard haha

reply

Yes, it is the swedish word for "the end" and it is not prononouced "sloot" but like the ou in you; "sluut" :-)

reply

Um, the "ou" in you sounds like "oo", hence why "you" and "yoo" would be pronounced the same.

I've watched loads and loads of Swedish movies (mostly Bergman), but the only movies that I've seen that have ended with "Slut" are this (Haxan) and The Phantom Carriage (also silent from the 20s). I wonder if the Swedes figured out what it meant in English and stopped putting it at the end of their movies because of that.

reply

maybe they did lol

reply

I know. I was jarred by it, but also found it humourous. It was as if despite the seventh act, there was this editorial comment about the whole subject.

reply

The u in slut is prononced like the u in dude

reply

Film WAS about a bunch of sluts though.

reply

At least you got the 'slut' at the end, lol. My copy was immediately cut at the scene when they were showing the woman getting burned. I hope I didn't miss anything.

reply

I got such a laugh out of that the first time I watched the movie.
