Burroughs commented version
Does anybody knows about a commented version of the film by William Burroughs? And how about it? Someone knows how can I get it?
Thank you, I really love this film and I think it's really bewitched.

Haxan, in its original form, screened this past Wednesday at the Billy Wilder Theater (inside the Hammer Museum) in Los Angeles. The film runs approximately 106 min.
The Criterion Collection DVD release includes the original version as well as the altered 77-min. 1968 re-release (Witchcraft Through the Ages) with the William S. Burroughs narration and the soundtrack featuring Jean-Luc Ponty.
Some of the time difference between the two versions relates to the removal of intertitles and the possible use of an incorrect (faster) frame rate.
Just saw the Burroughs version at the New Beverly theater. I honestly thought it had some great moments, but was ultimately a little boring. If it hadn't been for Burroughs, I'm not sure I would have made it through the whole thing.

This film is far superior to Burroughs and always will be. Adjust to accept this reality.
.
I like Burroughs (generally) but I've never made it all he way through his version, despite it being the shorter of the two copies I own. The music is pretty horrible, if I recall.. though it's been a while since I watched it so I may be mistaken.
shareYouTube has the Burroughs version in 8 parts. Part one is here:

The rest can be found in the Suggestion column on the right.
Does anyone know if the William S. Burroughs version is available on Region 2 DVD?
shareIt's on the Tartan video version released in the UK (Pal/Region 2). In fact the disc has basically EVERYTHING the criterion disc has on it (exact same version of both the film and the WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES version), plus two extra scores for the original film (the Bronnt Industries Kapital one is amazing!).
The only major things it lacks from the US DVD set are the commentary track (not really necessary but yes, a loss) and the essay in the Criterion booklet, which can be read for free here anyway:

It also lacks these smaller extras:
Benjamin Christensen’s introduction to the 1941 rerelease
A short selection of outtakes
Bibliothèque Diabolique: a photographic exploration of Christensen’s historical sources
...none of which matter, trust me.
I got the Tartan disc for £5 against the £20 for the criterion disc and was very happy. The extra scores definetely make it a better purchase than the Criterion disc.
Don't wait, drink urine now
