Soundtrack sucks

Someone should get Bill Nelson to record a more macabre soundtrack. The original, as well as the Luc-Ponty version,do not evoke any horror or creepiness.

I found something very chilling..

I was in a slightly altered state of mind.... so some people may find this strange. But if you loop the song ebb tide, azure sky by the unicorns... It makes for a frightening soundtrack. And you will be shocked at to how well the song adds to the movie. However the song does have a very deep, scary, and intense feeling to it. Experiment! have fun.

I played a CD by Raison D'Etre in the background which worked very well (Requiem for abandoned souls)

I beg to differ. This soundtrack is as perfect as any I've ever heard with a movie.
Great music and it wouldn't be the same without it. (Referring to the Criterion Disc)
Obviously I don't know what music originally accompanied this film so I can't really give an opinion on that.

Thank you 'thinkkam-2'.
This soundtrack by Humair is absolutely incredible and suiting.
Neat and interesting - just like the film.

I actually didn't care for the music either. I ended up muting the sound and just watching the film silently and liked it better that way. The film still worked just fine without music.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

It's so aimless and happy. Definitely killed the mood for me. 28 minutes in, I muted it and played Sopor Aeternus. Fit much better and timed out strangely well too.

@Necrotard: Sopor Aeternus good choice

I also thought the soundtrack didn't fit. It made some scenes seem too burlesque in my opinion. Not the kind of atmosphere I was looking for. So I muted the soundtrack and instead listened to Aghast's album "Hexerei im Zwielicht der Finsternis" (the album title means: witchcraft in the twilight of darkness) which is a dark ambient album with creepy, whispery female vocals.

On the Criterion edition, the soundtrack sounds upbeat and energetic, creating the opposite feeling of what you're watching.

I was tempted to turn it off and put on Popol Vuh's "Nosferatu" soundtrack instead.
