Does anyone else actually like the Kino soundtrack?

Everywhere I go, I seem to find glowing reviews about the Kino DVD release of "Der Spieler"... with the one complaint most seem to have being the soundtrack.

Personally, I like it. A lot. I thought it distinguished itself from most generic "silent film scores" whilst still maintaining the (in my judgment) perfect illusion of being something that would have been composed for the type of film during the time. I thought the melody itself, slow, devious-sounding piano notes with violin occasionally highlighting the mood was very fitting of the character of Mabuse.

Does anyone concur? And if not, what exactly don't you like about the score?

I also loved it. It established the mood very well.

black and white movies were better

I thought the Kino soundtrack is excellent for this film. Perhaps people might like the soundtrack more if they watched the special feature on the music on Disc 2.

The musician, Zimmermann, who wrote and played piano (along with several musicians) on the Kino soundtrack for Dr. Mabuse... tells his writing style for the special features on Disc 2 of region 1 DVD.

The soundtrack is very good. It reflects emotion and action in that 1920s silent classic.

I put it on mute and listened to Curve's discography, so I really have no idea what the actual music was like. Although I am happy to say that Curve worked surprisingly well as the soundtrack.

If that's the TCM soundtrack, I LOVE IT! I was even closing my eyes and forgetting the movie to listen to the sound (Why on Earth they chose to do a 14 hour Harold Lloyd marathon and then a Fritz Lang 4+ hour silent after, I'll never know! It started at 3:15 a.m.! They are becoming rather Dr. Mabusey-ish themselves IMO. But the soundtrack was beautiful for much of it--part 1--and fascinating throughout. The violins and cello esp. tho the piano was amazing as well...With tiny sound effects like bells....

That sounds like the one! That piano melody had a really determined, sinister bent to it, and the bells were a nice, taunting touch

I think it's pretty remarkable, given that it SEEMS to be just a piano, violin, cello, drum(s) and a toy xylophone.
