Orson Welles' introduction - EDIT - I GOT AN ANSWER


The Kino version I just saw had a 17 minute "extra" with Orson Welles talking about the film, and about Valentino (the only silent star he'd never met). It also includes some of an earlier film Valentino had done.

I'm curious about the reason Welles spoke. He talks about some silent film series, which might have been on TV, but I'm not sure how, being as this seemed, but Welles's girth, and by the film-quality, around the mid-1960s. It's possible that it was never used, as the quality of various segments is different. It's possible that the first segment was used, but I can't be sure.

Anyone have more information?

Freddy, I don't think I've seen the clip of Welles on Valentino, but I'd venture a guess that it's one of several intros he filmed for the Killiam Silents presentations on TV, in 1971, "The Silent Years".
