So when do we get to see it?

I have been so excited about this news ever since I heard about it last April. Over the years I've heard about this film and some who even speculated that it might not have existed at all. Now, I know that it's making it's premiere in Amsterdam some time next year but I live in Birmingham, Alabama (there is an very large film community here) and we are all wondering when do we in the states get to see it?

reply

I'm not sure, but I can imagine they will make copies and make sure it will get showed all around the world: it's special that such an old film has been found, so they certainly won't forget the States!

World premiere (I think) in Amsterdam Filmmuseum (beginning of April), I believe it is restored with a new soundtrack.

I saw it yesterday, but that's because I happen to live in Holland. I thought it was allright. There was definite chemistry between the two stars. I hope you will all get the chance to see it soon.

It also plays in Cannes now, so I think it will go overseas sometime soon...

According to www.milestonefilms.com, "Beyond the Rocks" is being released in North America this fall and will be out on DVD in 2006. I live in Toronto and have my fingers crossed that it will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.

It will be shown in San Francisco at the Castro Theatre on Sunday, November 13th,
with Dennis James at the Mighty WurliTzer.

I was lucky enough to attend the San Francisco screening. Dennis James performed beautifully and the whole event was very entertaining.

Gotta love Dennis James.

I saw it tonight in Los Angeles. They said the DVD was due out next year, with (excellent) music by a Dutch composer. Deffinatly one I'd like to own.

It's booked into The Tampa Theatre, a fully (and magnificently) restored, 1926-built, "atmospheric" that is this city's #1 art house.

...one show only: Sunday, February 26th at 3:00pm.

The Tampa Theatre is the only house in the city capable of screening this film-- it's going to be accompanied by the legendary Rosa Rio on the theatre's 1,200-pipe Wurlitzer. An event not to be missed.

Since January 6th, The Tampa Theatre has been the Tampa Bay area's exclusive venue for "Brokeback Mountain."

They have had a few odd weekend matinee shows, such as having Carol Channing appear and introduce "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

I missed that one-- I love Carol, but dislike that film...

On February 12th we'll be treated to the new anaglyph 3-D print of 1954's "Creature From The Black Lagoon," a film I've not seen (in 3-D) since I caught it at a NYC repertoire house in the late 1960's....

In the meantime, "Brokeback Mountain" has been packing them in-- and the theatre announced (over a week ago) that they were holding it over "due to popular demand" (their words). I've seen it several times-- each time with different friends-- but they all, both men & women, have the same reaction.... a feeling of having been witness to an artistic cinema masterpiece, and --at the same time-- a feeling of having been drawn right into the story-- as if there was no film, no actors, --just Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist-- and the tragic love story on the mountain. I've yet to sit through a showing of this film where I didn't witness applause at it's finish....and so many people wiping away tears....

I'm going again tonight, BTW-- this time with two co-workers.

If you think I'm spending a lot of money on tickets-- you're half right.
--I would if I had to-- this film is worth it. However, I have a membership card that acts as a pass. (The Tampa Theatre offers several levels of annual membership-- from $35.00 a year to $500.00 a year-- money they use to maintain the theatre in it's fabulously restored condition).

I have a $100 ('Mogul'-level) annual membership. It gets me into all films without having to buy a ticket, --nor wait on any lines-- something I VERY MUCH appreciated when "Brokeback" first opened, and the lines were always two blocks long!

In any case, I'm looking forward to "Beyond The Rocks," --and I'm especially appreciative of my chance to see it in a restored movie palace such as this one-- rather than just waiting for the home video disc....

I hope to post here after seeing it.....
