Ernst Lubitsch influence

I wonder if Ernst Lubitsch might have been informally involved in the third candle story - the comic one set in China. Lang was not a comic director by any stretch of the imagination - in fact I can't think of any comedies he made in his entire career, but I'd be happy to learn otherwise. However the comedy of this segment is assured, confident, witty and bright. It bears all the hallmarks of Lubitsch at that time, such as jokily conversational intertitles, exaggeratedly large numbers of people in comic set pieces, and outrageously absurd set construction (eg the special effect of the army under the sorcerer's legs.)

The sorcerer A Hi is played by one of Lubitsch's regular actors, Paul Biensfeldt, who appeared in at least six other Lubitsch films (as well as minor roles in a couple of other Langs).

What's more, Lubitsch and Lang were both working at UFA at the time, and Lubitsch had just completed his own 'Eastern' spectacular, 'Sumurun'. Hmm. Could this story be an uncredited Lubitsch production?

Worth some research.
