scary

I didn't find it in the least bit scary. I'm not sure what the source material was for this film but there is an element of The Christmas Carol about it i.e. a bad man is shown in the error of his ways in life past and present by a spirit and seeks redemption. Whether or not it is plagiarised, it is a pretty average film.

I'm watching it right now, and I think as a kid you could find this very scary indeed.
It's a pretty good movie actually

If you watch it with the newer, "experimental" score, that makes this movie truly scary. But horror or not, one thing is for sure: this is by far one of the best silent movies ever, though kind of underrated (well, I, for one, never heard anything about it before, and just found it by chance, while browsing on Amazon).
