Kubrick scene *spoilers"

The scene with the axe. I was literally breathless because it was identical to the Shining's one and it was so creepy, like a deja-vu or a reverse remake.

I was even waiting for David to stick his head in the hole. Transcendental.

Did anyone else had same feelings here?

I did. In my head, I was thinking "Here's Johnny!" I have to wonder if Kubrick lifted that scene from this film or if it was just serendipitous? It's SO close, I tend to think he lifted it as a homage. Great film, both!

... was also (and earlier) copied by Ingmar Bergman, who deeply admired Victor Sjöström and would not have made WILD STRAWBERRIES without him signing on to take the main role. I've only seen the British TV version with the axe scene (called The Lie (1970)), but Bergman originally did it for Swedish TV as Reservatet (1970).

"As quickly as you can ... snatch the pebble from my hand." Honga-Hula!
